Expedition Alpha is our in-house award for 11-14 year olds. The aim of this outdoor award is to act as a stepping stone between starting secondary school and being old enough to begin the Duke of Edinburgh awards.
The award is designed to start participants on their outdoor learning journey. We will teach navigation and campcraft skills which will prepare participants for the assessed Expedition weekend.
All those taking part will learn valuable new skills, including teamwork, communication, resilience and observation.
A benefit of this being our in-house award is it allows us to adjust the learning to the group, we can for example make an expedition more bushcraft based or even more competitive, it really does depend on the group.
Taking part in this award can also reduce the need for a practice expedition when students start their Bronze Duke of Edinburgh award.
As well as offering this award to schools, it is also open to any other youth organisation, such as sports clubs to help with team building.
We also run several open Expedition Alphas a year that anyone within the age range can sign up for.
After assessment we like to encourage participants to arrange a small award ceremony so family and friends can share in their achievement. All those taking part will receive a certificate of achievement.
Please Remember that we are a Not for profit Community Interest Company and we can offer limited free or reduced rate places for certain participants, or help participants fundraise for their place on Expedition Alpha.
Prices are currently £95 per participant, which includes all training, camp fees and an evening meal on the Expedition weekend.
